Happ and Defense

J.A. Happ walked four and struck out six in six innings against the the Mariners Sunday afternoon, but allowed just one hit as the Blue Jays win 2-0, giving Happ his 13th win. Happ’s walks are up slightly this season and his strikeouts down slightly, but his hit rate dipped, especially his BABIP. He doesn’t seem to being doing much different. What changed is the defense behind him. The Blue Jays were below average in 2015, well above average fielding in 2016. With a better defense, Happ is allowing fewer hits, a lower ERA, and his most wins in a season.
