Games of the Day

Two first place teams continue their series as Josh Tomlin leads the Indians against Kevin Gausman and the Orioles. A low walk rate represents Tomlin’s strength as a pitcher, just 12 this season in 107 2/3 innings. Homers are his weakness with 22 allowed this season, accounting for 31 of the 50 runs he allowed. Pitching in Baltimore plays to his weakness. Gausman is the bad-luck pitcher of the Orioles staff, with a 1-7 record with his 4.05 ERA. Six times the Orioles scored two runs or less for Gausman, making it tough for him to win. He owns a 2.79 ERA at home, where he is just 1-1 in six starts.

The Mets try to move past the Marlins as Jacob deGrom battle Jose Fernandez. deGrom owns the Marlins, 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA in eight career starts. He gave up just two home runs in 52 innings. Fernandez might own the Mets even more, 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA in six career starts. He’s allowed one home run in 34 innings.

The Dodgers and Cardinals fight for the first wild card slot in the National League as Kenta Maeda takes on Mike Leake. Maeda allowed just four of his 11 home runs on the road. Leake allowed 15 home runs on the year, but just one in 19 July innings
