The Astros and Mariners participated in a K-Fest on Saturday, as 23 batters went down on strikes. With all the whiffs, the teams combined for just nine hits as the Mariners win 1-0. Leonys Martín doubled early, but his triple in the sixth inning was followed by a Robinson Cano single for the only run of the contest. Seattle needed the win, as they were just 4-7 against Houston.
I like a well-pitched game as much as the next guy, but…
Ugh.
Baseball was designed to have a balance among pitching, hitting, and defense. When 50% of the outs are by strikeout, that balance is out of whack, and a dull game results.
