Games of the Day

The Indians go for a franchise record 14th straight win as they send Josh Tomlin against the Blue Jays and Marcus Stroman in a Canada Day afternoon game. The Indians went 4-1 in Tomlin’s starts in June, losing his best pitched game of the month, a 3-2 fall to the Royals on 6/14. Stroman’s 5.33 ERA is a bit of a disappointment, given his strong return at the end of 2015. His low K rate appears to be leading to a ton of hits, especially with runners in scoring position. Opponents are hitting .347/.432/.495 in that situation.

The Cubs and Mets continue their series with Jason Hammel battling Jacob deGrom. Hammel, at seasonal age 33, is posting the best single season ERA of his career, about 1.8 runs lower than his MLB average. In a year when home runs are booming, he cut his rate. The Mets scored 0 or 1 run in each of deGrom’s five June starts, with the only win coming when deGrom threw eight shutout innings his last time out.

Enjoy!
