Games of the Day

For the second day in a row, the Pirates face a potential Cy Young Award winner as Johnny Cueto and the Giants take on Wilfreo Boscan. Cueto goes for his 11th win of the season to go along with his 2.10 ERA. He cut down slightly on his walks, but in a with home runs up, he allowed just three in 102 2/3 innings. He gave up 21 homers in 212 innings last season. Boscan makes the first major league start of his career after five relief appearances. He only struck out six in 12 1/3 innings, but his defense supported Boscan to help him hold opponents to a .205 BA.

Chris Sale takes on the Red Sox as Clay Buchholz returns to the Boston rotation against the White Sox. Sale owns almost a third of the White Sox 34 wins. The other starters are 14-25. Buchholz posted a 2.89 ERA in his five relief appearances, and did not allow a home run. He allowed 12 as a starter.

James Paxton leads the Mariners against the Tigers and Justin Verlander. Paxton makes his fifth start of the season, having struck out 29 in his first 22 innings. He did allowe three home runs, however. Verlander improved each month this year, with a 5.46 ERA in April, 3.16 in May, and 3.05 so far in June. He allowed six home runs in April, only five since then.

Finally, Anthony DeSclafani faces Colby Lewis as the Reds face the Rangers. DeSclafani owns a 2.08 ERA after two starts despite walking six in 8 2/3 innings. For his career, his control is great, 66 walks in 226 1/3 innings. Lewis comes off a two-hitter that lowered his ERA to 2.81. He goes for his seventh win with no defeats.
