The Albers Game

The White Sox beat the Mets 2-1 in 13 innings Wednesday afternoon thanks to relief pitcher Matt Albers. Albers pitched two scoreless innings for the win, but it was his bat that won the game. With no one left to pinch hit, the heavy veteran, 2 for 34 with 21 strikeouts for his career, legged out a double, barely moved to third on a wild pitch, then scored on a sacrifice fly. He still had enough energy left to pitch the bottom of the inning for the win.

The Mets drew 13 walks while striking out 12 times, but could only push one run across the plate. The White Sox defense helped with five double plays, while the Mets went 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position.
