Matz Ball

Steven Matz pitched an outstanding game against the Nationals as the Mets take the contest 2-0, and the series two games to one. Matz walked one and struck out seven in eight innings of work. He lowers his ERA to 2.36 and stands 7-1 on the season.

The Mets looked like they would go into the 2016 season with an outstanding rotation, and a quarter of the way through the season they seem to have achieved that. Matt Harvey is a disappointment, but his walk and strikeout rates aren’t that bad, he’s just allowing two many hits and home runs. The other four are extremely good at limiting free passes and home runs. Noah Syndergaard and Matz do an excellent job of blowing away batters. The Nationals rotation looks pretty good as well, so expect more duels as these teams play out the season.

On a side note, Daniel Murphy collected two more hits to raise his batting average to .394. I’m charting the probability of him hitting .400 on Google sheets.
