Games of the Day

Steven Matz and Tanner Roark start the day as the Mets and Nationals play the rubber game of their three-game series. Matz is off to a great start to his season and his career. He stands 6-1 with a 2.81 ERA this season, and 10-1 with a 2.56 ERA in his 13 starts. He’s struck out 77 in 77 1/3 innings career with just 18 walks. Roark allowed just three home runs this season in 56 innings, all solo shots.

Jake Arrieta tries to extend his record to 9-0 as he battles Carlos Martinez and the Cardinals. Arrieta stand 19-0 in his last 22 regular season starts, owning an 0.86 ERA. The most runs he allowed in a game in that stretch is three, happening in three separate games. In only one of those games were all the runs earned. Martinez has been roughed up a bit at home this season with 4.03 ERA. He allowed four of his five home runs at home.

Marco Estrada takes on Ivan Nova as the Blue Jays visit the Yankees. Estrada pitches extremely well this year, holding opponents to a .187/.261/.305 slash line. The formerly potent Blue Jays offense scored three runs or less in seven of Estrada’s eight starts. Nova pitched better in the rotation, with a 1.65 ERA as a starter, 5.14 as a reliever this season.
