Road Cy

Zack Greinke made his fourth road start of the season, and once again pitched well. He limited the the Cardinals to one run in eight innings, walking one and striking out seven. The Diamondbacks gave Greinke plenty of support as Arizona wins 7-2. In his four road starts, Greinke is now 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA. If they gave Cy Young awards for road statistics, Greinke would be in the discussion.

As good as Greinke pitched on the road this season, he pitched poorly at home. Early in his career, before he joined the Dodgers, Greinke pitched two poor games in Arizona, and two good ones. He was lights out there with the Dodgers, 6-0 with 0.65 ERA in six games. Given that history, the Diamondbacks should have expected him to pitch well at home. So far that hasn’t happened. His good record on the road indicates there’s probably nothing wrong with Zack. Could it be Greinke’s social anxiety issues somehow rearing their head in his new digs?
