Odor to Sit

Rougned Odor gets the biggest penalty, an eight game suspension, as discipline is handed down due to the donnybrook between Toronto and Texas Sunday:

In handing down its disciplinary action, MLB said Odor has been suspended for eight games for fighting.

That includes the roundhouse right hand that Odor landed on the jaw of Bautista when the altercation first boiled over in the top of the eighth inning.

Bautista has received a one-game suspension for his actions during the incident and for his postgame comments.

Odor and Bautista have each elected to file an appeal, meaning their suspension will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.

The MLB also announced that Blue Jays reliever Jesse Chavez has received a three-game suspension for intentionally throwing at Prince Fielder of the Rangers in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Rangers’ shortstop Elvis Andrus has received a one-game suspension for his aggressive actions during the incident.

The penalties stem from Sunday’s game in Texas where an eighth-inning, benches-clearing donnybrook erupted between the two teams.

MLB suspended John Gibbons three games for returning to the field after an ejection.

The eight games for Odor seems appropriate. Most baseball fights are for show. It’s rare that you see that much real violence in a baseball fight, and long suspensions like this should keep it that way.
