The Not Too Rare Feat

Lorenzo Cain hit three home runs against the Yankees Tuesday night, but the Yankees wound up beating the Royals 10-7. I would think it’s rare for a player to hit three home runs in a game and have his team lose, but looking at a list of the times it happened, it’s not as rare as I would have thought. The last time was on July 29th of 2015, when Lucas Duda hit three bombs in a loss. In general, we see this zero to two times a year, with four in 2001 and six in 1987, the year of the home run.

Royals fans might be more concerned that the bullpen allowed six runs in the game. The Yankees put the ball in play against Joakim Soria and Kelvin Herrera, neither recording a K in two innings. That’s not how the Royals bullpen is supposed to work. The starters are not too strong this season, so it may be the high bullpen use is starting to wear on the pitchers.

Starters have been awful, bullpen has been disappointing, offense has been the worst in the AL coming into this series, and Moustakas is injured. Defense has not been all that great either.

Team and manager look lethargic, I dont see the hunger I saw last year. Post championship let down. If not for the Twins I think last place would be a real possibility

They weren’t a great team last year either. Going by run differential per inning, they were basically a 500 team through 6 innings, and a great team the last 3 innings (pen and offense).
