Pablo Sandoval required labrum surgery and will miss the rest of the 2016 season. I suspect his poor spring and bad start had more to do with his shoulder slowly going that his conditioning. This is another data point that gives credence to, “Playing badly, probably hurt.”
He first hurt it in 2011 and said it bothered him mostly from the right side of the plate. Since 2011 his numbers have steadily declined. They fell off the cliff last year and he gave up hitting right handed despite playing at Fenway. I dare say this has been an issue for him for awhile. Shocking the Red Sox did not insure him, and they would not have signed him w/o an injury clause if he was uninsurable.
Supposedly he reinjured it diving on a play in the field after he already lost his job. Although I think pulling off his belt when it unbuckled on him at the plate may have done the job
