Morton Salted

Charlie Morton will miss the rest of the 2016 due to a hamstring that requires surgery:

The Phillies announced Wednesday morning that Morton will have surgery on his torn left hamstring Monday in Philadelphia. He will need six to eight months to recover, which means he will miss the remainder of the 2016 season.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley left-hander Adam Morgan is expected to take Morton’s spot in the Phils’ rotation Friday against the Indians at Citizens Bank Park.

Morton was off to a decent start with 19 K in 17 1/3 innings. Note that he injured the running to first on a sacrifice bunt. Injuries like that will keep pushing NL teams to use the designated hitter.

Adam Morgan brings great control to the Phillies. He posted low walk rates in the minors and in his first season with Philadelphia.
