Closer than it Looked

The Rays pounded their former ace David Price as they won a slugfest with the Red Sox, 12-8. Both teams collected 15 hits. Both teams hit two home runs and the Red Sox out doubled the Rays 7-5. The Rays drew six walks to the Red Sox five, and Tampa Bay batters were hit three times. The Rays made three errors, but all were after hits and allowed an extra base.

The big difference was simply batting with runners in scoring position. The Rays went 6 for 14, while Boston struggled at 4 for 20. This easily could have been a 13-12 Boston win.

Price’s ERA stands at 7.06, and although he didn’t get the loss, he most certainly contributed to it. I suspect the Pablo Sandoval comparisons are right around the corner.
