Games of the Day

Chad Bettis and Raisel Iglesias square off as the Rockies play an early afternoon games in Cincinnati. Bettis traded ground balls for fly balls this year, and so far it is working for him. In his brief major league career, Iglesias showed both power and control, striking out 118 batters and walking just 32 in 112 innings.

In the earliest of the evening games, Taijuan Walker and the Mariners take on Danny Salazar and the Indians. Walker is ironically named, as he issued just two intentional passes in 12 innings this year. Salazar allowed just five hits in 11 1/3 innings so far, the only run against coming on a homer.

The Tigers and Royals send off-season acquisitions against each other as Jordan Zimmermann faces Ian Kennedy. Zimmermann has yet to allow a run this season, despite a low strikeout rate. He only struck out seven in 13 innings, but only allowed eight hits. Kennedy allowed just one run in 13 2/3 innings. He’s doing it the old fashioned way, striking out 14 and allowing just seven hits.

Finally, big names take the mound in San Francisco as Zack Greinke leads the Diamondbacks against Madison Bumgarner and the Giants. Neither pitched all that well this season in terms of ERA. Since the start of the 2013 season, however, they own the highest two batting averages of any pitchers with at least 150 PA.

Enjoy!
