Team Offense, Milwaukee Brewers

The 2016 series on team offense continues with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers finished twenty second in the majors and ninth in the National League in 2015 with 4.04 runs scored per game.

Once again I am using a combination of RotoChamp and USA Today as a source of default lineups. I’m going with the USA Today lineup. That one show Scooter Gennett in the lead-off spot, and he batted there lately. That Craig Counsell lineup is plugged into the Lineup Analysis Tool (LAT) using Musings Marcels as the batter projections. For the pitchers slot, I used the actual stats for the Brewers pitchers from 2015. That information produces the following results (Runs per game):

Best lineup: 4.11
Probable lineup: 3.91
Worst lineup: 3.59
Regressed lineup: 3.79

The Brewers are in rebuilding mode, and it appears they didn’t do much to try to improve the lineup versus 2015. Watch for them to start working younger talent in throughout the season.

The biggest mistake I see in the potential batting order is Aaron Hill in the fifth slot. It’s possible the Brewers believe he will return to his career norms after two very down seasons. He just turned 34 a few days ago, so that maybe wishful thinking.

Otherwise, it’s not a bad batting order given the talent on the team. Jonathan Lucroy should not bat first as a catcher, so Gennett, Lucroy, Ryan Braun, and Chris Carter make a good top four. Now the team just needs to find some more talent to back them up.
