Two for The Donaldson

Josh Donaldson and the Blue Jays settled their arbitration case with a two-year contract:

The Blue Jays and reigning AL MVP Josh Donaldson avoided arbitration Monday by agreeing to a two-year contract worth nearly $29 million, according to Sportsnet.

Interestingly, the Jays did not lock him up through his final arbitration year, meaning in two years they will go through this again. That’s a good move. Donaldson plays 2016 as a 30-year-old, which means his decline years will kick in. If he shows decline in two years, the Jays won’t go for a longer contract to keep him in the fold. If he remains an MVP candidate, the Jays can figure out how many years they want to extend him.

On top of that, Donaldson can easily earn this contract in one year. The Jays should be getting a ton of wins out of this deal at well below free agent rates.
