There is a report that Johnny Cueto turned down a six-year, $120 million offer from the Diamondbacks. Given that Cueto is both younger than Jordan Zimmermann, and a better pitcher, I’m not surprised. He’s probably worth $200 million for six years, although his poor performance when he went to the Royals might be hurting him.
I’m thinking Cueto might be more of an NL pitcher. Good with the Reds, but didn’t pitch well against AL offenses. Small sample size, but when you’re talking about north of $20 million per, it does matter.
He’s 14-6 with a 2.68 ERA and 155 K’s in 178 IP in Interleague play in his career. His ERA is more than half a run lower than his career mark (3.30) and his K-rate of 7.8/9IP is higher than his career mark of 7.4. Seems he’s done pretty well against the AL.
