Quiet Camp

Joe McDonald notes that the Red Sox camp is pretty quiet, with only the starting shortstop job and a couple of backup positions up for grabs.

Actually, the veteran scribes on the beat say it hasn't been like this in many years.

There's no Manny. No Curt. No Nomar.

No problems.

Of course, that makes the Red Sox a big boring. As long as I can remember there were larger than life personalities on this team, for good or bad. David Ortiz still has that, and to a certain extent Dustin Pedroia. It would be nice to see a foil there, however.

And Pedroia, Ortiz, Youk, Bay and Dice-K are gone for the WBC now.

Lowrie looks to end up at 3B if Lowell isn't ready, and he does not look ready. Drews back, Lugos new muscles and Roccos muscle problems plus the battle between Kottaras and Bard are the only real stories among position players.
