Eaton Out
The Phillies released Adam Eaton. Tim Malcolm believes Eaton's failure taught the Phillies a lesson about signing marginal pitchers.
From the outside, it appeared that Eaton never tried very hard. His doughy face and deer in headlights expression didn't help. His quotes during the slow trip to Elba on the depth chart were always a strange mix of "Why me?" and Sucessories® style pep talks.
What Gillick missed was the fact that Eaton was never a good pitcher. His one decent season with SD was just that, one season that will forever go down as a fluke. He never won more than 11 games, never had a WHIP lower than 1.27.
Good-bye Adam Eaton.
