I Was Really Hoping We Could Avoid This
A congressman is calling for Alex Rodriguez to testify before a committee. Why not just make lying to Peter Gammons a crime and go from there?

Sure, why not? It's not like there's anything else Congress should be doing.
Cummings is a joke. I'm embarrassed to say he's one of my state's reps.
Seriously, is that all they have going on?
I agree with rbj above completely. MLB should handle steroids, congress, stick to the nation's important business.
So, is it now a safe working theory that everything in Jose Canseco's book is true?
T ball is on to something, though I'd switch roles: Have Congress work to remove steroids from the game and have MLB fix the economy. We'd have a better chance at good results on both that way.
How about we put the economy on steroids? ;)
I don't generally give free legal advice but...well, I would not be advising A-Rod to appear unless compelled, and to take the Fifth if asked anything, even his shoe size.
Technically Arod did lie to a government official. He was being interviewed by the 7th President of the United States - Andrew Jackson. = )
Well, Canseco claimed Clemens was the only player that was faithful to his wife- so no, not everything was true.
While I agree that Cummings is a complete clown and this is a waste of time, I'm not 100% against holding hearings. If it keeps those idiots in DC too busy to pass the wasteful "stimulus" crap sandwich then please hold hearings on every sport.
