Indians Left Field

This article at MLB.com talks about the Indians contingency plans if Ben Francisco doesn't work out. There's no real reason to think he will. His minor league numbers are okay, but not great, and he's coming to the majors old.

The Indians own the second longest championship drought in the majors. Given this year's free agent market, why not do the obvious and hire Manny Ramirez short term? Offer him two years, $50 million and see what happens. That's one town where the fans shouldn't be waiting for another rebuild.

I agree that Cleveland fans (me among them) should not wait for another rebuild, and I don't think that's happening here.

No chance for Ramirez. One: Tribe is at or a little over budget, so no money. Two: The clubhouse is at the exact character and mood level that the front office and Wedge enjoys. An addition of Ramirez, and, you know ....

Also, they have an outfield situation that any team would love. Three potential everyday players in AAA, including one who scouts say is major-league-ready (LaPorta) and one who will move Sizemore out of the leadoff spot (Brantley). They don't want to block any one of them from getting to the majors.

Manny has burned too many bridges in Cleveland. He still stares into the press box before every at bat in Progressive Field because of one comment one newspaper reporter made years ago. And don't forget his home run celebration antics during the 2007 ALCS.
