Pay Cut for Glavine

The Braves are willing to bring back Tom Glavine, but their contract offer represents a huge pay cut:

Free agent lefthander Tom Glavine has made it known that he'd like to re-sign with the Braves, and he'll get his chance to do so. The Braves' website reports the team has offered the 305-game winner a one-year contract worth between $1 million and $2 million.

He made $9 million in 2008. I guess this means the Braves don't have a great deal of confidence in Glavine's ability to last the season or pitch well.

Or just a complete lack of need at SP going into the year.

Offer sounds about right. Hopefully he accepts and can end his career where he started. Would be nice if at least one of the big three retire a Brave.

To Yaramah's point, it really seems like the Braves simply don't want any of the big three to retire a Brave. Consider that they just signed Derek Lowe for $15 mil a year until he's 39. So is Glavine 1/15th the pitcher Derek Lowe is? Furthermore, Jamie Moyer (46, LHP) just signed a 2-year $18 mil contract.

You have to figure if they really wanted to keep Smoltz or Glavine they could at least make good faith offers. I understand if they are concerned about age/injury, but I hope Chipper's paying attention.
