Giant Plan

The Giants' plan to land Manny Ramirez seems to be to wait until Manny is so upset at the Dodgers he's willing to take below market deal someplace else.

Executives with other teams do not believe the Giants are serious players in the Manny bidding. They think San Francisco's real intent is to keep the Dodgers honest, to force them to give Ramirez at least a two-year deal. And if somehow Ramirez gets angered by the Dodgers' level of interest and decides to deliver himself to their division rival, well, all the better for the Giants.

I'm somewhat surprised that a team like the Nationals or Orioles, who were in the bidding for Mark Teixeira, wouldn't commit some of that money to a two-year deal for Manny just for the publicity.

What sense would it make for Baltimore to sign a player who would possibly at any time pull off the shenanigans he did in Boston? Also how much sense would it put in the rebuilding phase to give up a 2nd round pick for Ramirez? If the O's dont pitch well it isn't going to make a difference with Ramirez, they might win a few more games but won't put them in contention. I'll pass on Ramirez. Let the Dodgers and Giants bid for Ramirez.

I cannot believe the lack of interest in Manny. This guy is a game-changer. Yes, he had a terrible exit from Boston, but that wasn't entirely his fault. I think the team was sick of babysitting him all the time. If you're a borderline team, though, what's a little babysitting for a guy who can single-handedly carry you into the playoffs and fill your stadium?

who knows how much interest in manny there really IS?

it is hard to believe that he's being barry bonds'd and absolutely NO ONE wants him

i'm sure if he would agree to a 1 year deal, even at a lot of money, there would be a LOT of teams nterested
