Earning Peak?

The Pirates settle with Adam LaRoche, signing him for $7 million in his final year of arbitration. Could that be his top salary? Teams are talking about offering Adam Dunn $5 million a year, and Dunn is a better hitter. LaRoche is not a defensive wizard either. I have to believe this signing either helps Dunn's case this year, or really hurts LaRoche going into free agency.

Maybe they saved themselves a couple of $$$ by agreeing with LaRoche. LaRoche has hurt Pittsburgh by getting off to bad starts the last 2 years. If he gets back to '06 form he might be worth keeping but he's going to be 30 after the '09 season and it looks like he's going to just be what he is. Not good enough to really make an impact but solid enough to keep you off the scrap heap.
