Blasting Baltimore

Leo Mazzone says he made a mistake leaving the Braves, and takes down the Orioles while he's at it:

To hear Mazzone tell it, his firing was a relief. "Once I got there and saw how they operated compared to the Braves, I knew I made a mistake the first week of spring training," he said, before chuckling and adding, "I said to myself, 'You know what? I done messed up.'

"The lack of organization. The lack of discipline. The lack of overall professionalism. I was shocked, and I couldn't believe it."

Wow, that's pretty damning. Not exactly words that will draw people to open positions in Baltimore.

I have herd of a player who left the Braves and is now on another team make the same point-Cox demands accountability, punctuality, professional demeanor and dress. That must be supported all the way up the ladder.

I have HEARD of a player-is how it should read

He complains about lack of professionalism, but yet makes comments like this to the media. I have no doubt that the franchise WAS a joke when he signed up, but I feel MacPhail has changed that.

Regardless, his comments come across as a little desperate.

How's the job search going, Leo?

Posted by: Joe at January 18, 2009 07:09 PM

Didn't he choose to go to Balt because like his best friend was the manager? Maybe he could have checked that other stuff out first. Badmouthing employers on the way out the door isn't really worth the effort.

Shouldn't that be part of his job, to bring structure and organization to the Orioles where it was lacking? Did he do anything to try and improve the situation? Did he not ask the right questions before he signed on as pitching coach?

Cox demands professional demeanor of his men-too bad he doesn't demand it of himself. Cox once got drunk, punched out his wife until she called the cops, he got jailed, and then he conned his wife into dropping the charges. Is that professional?
