It seems most of the country think the Yankees are going to win the AL East this year.

LOL!! I can't believe that anyone, even if they live in Maryland, think the Orioles can win that division! I for one, think the Yankees will have more problems than people realize...

So how are Burnett and Sabathia going to win more games than Pettite and Mussina did last year? Is Teixeira going to produce significantly more than the Yanks got at 1B last year? And Jeter and A-Rod are a year older, and slower, and their defense is going to be even worse. I think it will be Rays and Red Sox again this year, with the Yanks and Jays fighting for 3rd.

Jim,
If it plays out that way the laughter directed at the Yanks will be deafening. Joe G will be the devil incarnate in the NY press. I think they have another couple moves to make, and they will be in position to add payroll at the break. Wondering what the roster looks like in Sept, funny to ponder given the fact that they've dominated player acquisition this offseason.

They've got a lot of holes and a lot of spare parts. They also have a lot of superstars. If Sabathia and AJ both pitch like they did after the break last year they could win - They also have a lot of potential breakdowns and play in a really tough division. But they could be better and still not be good enough to win the division. I also can't see Boston standing pat and finishing third behind NYY and TB with 90-92 wins.
