Wow! See, as much as I've decided there's no need for a salary cap, I certainly don't think the Yankees expenditures is a good thing. Can you imagine how profitable the Yanks would be if they had...say... Billy Beane or the Twins GM's philosophy running the organization? You could have a solid team for $60 million but be able to do something the small market teams can't - add a Sabathia for $23 million more. They'd win just as much. The fans would be coming just as much. They'd be more profitable. I think the Yanks shoot themself in the foot with all this extra spending. They'd probably even be able to get beyond the first round of the playoffs too!
It's amazing to think that they can make these big signgings and still be under last year's payroll.
People say they are overspending and bad for baseball-- they are REDUCING. Payroll.
