New Wigg?

Nick and Nick would rather the Twins stand pat than sign Ty Wigginton:

I don't think Wigginton would be a terrible acquisition at the right price, but he doesn't get me particularly excited. The Twins entered this offseason with a sizable surplus in their budget and it will be unfortunate if they end up sitting on their excess rather than using it to add players who can help them win, but having the money to sign Wigginton is not reason enough to sign him. When all aspects of his game are taken into account, I don't think he adds much to this club. Even if it's not particularly exciting, sometimes holding steady makes sense.

If the Red Sox do sign Teixeira, maybe the Twins would use that surplus to acquire Lowell or Youkilis from Boston.

And just who do the Twins give up to get Youkilis? I'm sure the Sox are just itching to trade away their best player in 2008, who is dirt-cheap by today's standards and not eligible for free agency for two more years.

Get real. Signing Wigginton would be a huge upgrade at the black hole known as the Twins third base position. Last year Wigginton hit .285/.350/.526. Okay, that was a real good year. But Wigginton's career line of .270/.330/.460 looks just fine compared to the scrubs the Twins used at third last year, who combined for a nifty .730 OPS.

Wigginton's younger, healthier and cheaper than Lowell. If Minnesota has a chance to sign him, they'd be nuts not to.

I have to agree on the speculation about trading Youk - it's crazy talk - he was more valuable than Pedroia - but short of some deal where Boston were to get Mauer and something else (Perkins?)what would they take from Twinks?
