Younger and Cheaper

Buster Olney writes that despite the spending spree, the Yankees are going to be younger and cheaper than in 2008. On top of that, none of these moves cost them any prospects from their system.

"On top of that, none of these moves cost them any prospects from their system."

No prospects, just all of their draft picks.

Not all of their draft picks. They have several protected picks this year. And draft picks are never a sure thing. How many 1st round picks ever make an impact on a major league club? 20%?

Begs the question of how overpaid were they last year? Who was earning all the money for nothing? The rotation really looks better now, compared to 2004. I hope to god they don't get Lowe, I hope Atlanta makes a strong run for him.

"Who was earning all the money for nothing?"

Giambi. Abreu. Pettitte. Matsui (injured).

I don't see them going after Lowe. I think their rotation is set. I think they still need a big bat to replace Giambi, and it could be a guy like Adam Dunn.
