Difference of Opinion
Only Baseball Matters disagrees with Keith Law over the Renteria signing.
I read the article and the guy really has no argument. He just rambles on about how the Giants have screwed up so many times before. Nothing but an angry Giants fan
Either you didn't read the piece, or maybe I need to re-write it, but I have an argument. Renteria is not likely to be as good as when was last season, and he wasn't that good then. Tying up $9 million for the next two years for another mediocre player is bad team building, and it's a repeat of the same old mistakes that the team has been making for a while.
Why would SF pay him the same amount as 3 teams who got rid of him were paying him? Did they think there was a hot market for guys who can't play SS any more? I'm not sure what he would play for but I don't think there were a lot of other bidders out there in the 18-20 M range.
