Brush with Greatness

John Perricone ran into Tim Lincecum the other night:

First impression, he has that look, that glow, that the preternaturally gifted all seem to have. His handshake was impressive, to say the least. He did seem normal sized, not huge, but his hands were large, solid, and seemed very strong.

He was genuinely friendly, and I felt pretty great getting to meet him in person. Thanks for being such an approachable star, Tim.

I've noticed the hands on other players I've met. They all seem to have big mitts.

Gil Hodges had large hands, and Pee Wee Reese's joke about him was, he could play first base barehanded, he only wears a glove because it's fashionable.

Glenn Davis's hands are approximately a foot wide and two feet long.

I once shook Johnny Bench's hand. Turns out my boyhood idol really didn't need a catcher's glove! J.B. was always listed at 5'11" but didn't seem much if any taller than me (5'8"), yet his hands were between 2-3 times larger than mine. And they were surprisingly soft.
