Delgado Remains a Met
The Mets exercised their option on Carlos Delgado. He'll cost them $12 million this year since the option didn't vest. He'll be 37 in 2009. He bounced back from a sub-par 2007 season, but it took him until Randolph's firing to get going in 2008. If he plays well in 2009, it's a steal of a contract.
I can see both sides of the situation. On one hand, Delgado is getting old and can't be counted on. And on the other hand, who else is out there to replace him?
By the way, the Red Sox picked up Tim Wakefield for 2009 on that permanent-rollover-sort-of-like-the-old-reserve-clause deal. Boston media says this means the Sox won't look for any big free agent pitchers but will instead go after Teixeira.
