Hamels MVP

Cole Hamels takes home the award for the World Series Most Valuable Player. Cole probably deserves it for the entire playoffs. Only a Baldelli home run prevented him from going 5-0. He thanks the fans for coming out in the rain and supporting him, helping through that game. That will endear him to the Philadelphia fans for a long time. Nice job by Cole, and a great post season.

re: Phils win, Hamels MVP

well, the Phils did it. first, you have to thank the 2005 White Sox for sending us Aaron Rowand, who taught the Phillies how to win. The Houston Astros for sending us Brad Lidge, who left his ghosts behind in Houston and became a lights out closer. Milwaukee for lending us Geoff Jenkins. Seattle for giving us Jamie Moyer, who became like a second pitching coach and taught everyone his junky changeups. The As for sending us Joe Blanton, a #2 in Oakland, but a devastating #4 starter for the Phils. and the giants for sending us Pedro Feliz, who was a terrific 3d baseman all year, and really hit well situationally with runners on base.

but most of all the phils farm system, for yielding up Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Pat Burrell, Cole Hamels, Shane Victorino. Brett Myers, Ryan Howard, Ryan Madsen just to name but a few.

This was a lot like the Chisox and the Yankees of 2005 and 1996--teams built mainly from within and with lots of pitching and defense.

and rock solid closers, and lots of defense.

stat to note; second team since three rounds of playoffs introduced to go 7-0 at home since 1999 yankees.

pretty impressive.

in an extreme hitters park, the phils did what they had to--they went out and get the pitching.

also if you look at their win shares, it's spread pretty evenly across the club. Fifteen or more players with 10 or more win shares. impressive balance.

this was a great club from start to finish, and they finished very strongly in september, and kept it going in October to the end.
