A Pair Beats Three of a Kind

The Phillies defeat the Dodgers 3-2 to take a one game lead in the NLCS. The offense of both teams revolved around extra-base hits. Three doubles led to the two Los Angeles runs, while homers by Utley and Burrell plated the three Philadelphia runners. If Manny's double in the first had been two feet higher, this game would be tied.

Cole Hamels pitches seven strong innings, striking out eight and walking just two. He threw 67% of his pitches for strikes. Lowe threw the same number of balls, but 20 fewer strikes in his 5 1/3 innings of work.

Great game that goes to show a pitcher can come very close to excellence ... and fall in the agony of defeat. Lowe will be back. This ball park is just to small to keep the ball up.

Or if Manny busts it out of the box all the way he MIGHT have had a triple-the whole complexion of the inning then changes. He is a great hitter, but other facets of his game are often lacking.

Or if Manny busts it out of the box

Keep dreaming

And don't demand that Manny run, otherwise he'll claim he has knee problems.

This is one time that I'll sort of defend Manny. He got caught admiring his home run...which unfortunately didn't go out of the park.

It really wasn't laziness this time, I think. It was just the ego of the long-distance hitter. You see lots of other guys do the same.
