Mariners and Nationals Win

The Seattle Mariners defeat the Oakland Athletics 4-3, finishing the season with 61 wins and 101 losses. That means, the Washington Nationals, who fell to the Phillies 8-3, finish with 102 losses, the worst record in the majors. They'll get the pleasure of picking first in the June 2009 draft. Small consolation.

Small consolation? Ask Tampa Bay if their many high draft picks contributed to winning the most difficult division in baseball.

As a Nats fan, I've been enjoying all of the recent losses and I've been watching Seattle closely. I've been hoping for this since July. Ownership has demonstrated no interest in spending money, so a successful draft is the only way this team is going to be good.
