Cubs Club

Derrek Lee picks up a two-out RBI single and Aramis Ramirez follows with a two-run homer and the Cubs lead the Mets 9-6 in the tenth. You can't blame this game on the bullpen, and the Mets had plenty of opportunities to win this game in regulation. Instead, Luis Ayala pitches in three straight games and has to go two in this one and gives up the runs.

The Mets face Kerry Wood in the bottom of the tenth.

Update: The Mets go out in the tenth, and they are tied with Milwaukee for the Wild Card lead. If it comes down to a one-game playoff on Monday, it should be known as the Interim Bowl. The manager who loses probably loses his job, and the one that wins likely keeps it.

I'm still hoping for a three-way tie. If the Phillies go 2-1, and the Mets and Brewers win all four of their remaining games, the three teams end up 91-71. So we could end up with a two-day playoff in the NL, and two extra days in the AL if the Twins and White Sox end up 1/2 game apart and the makeup game Monday results in an AL Central tie. This is going to be a fun weekend.

At least give the Brewers props for winning a couple against the Bucs. The Mets and Phils can't back up fast enough. Now I'm cheering for 'Stros
