A Little Whine with Your Finish?
Big League Stew offers a very good takedown of Hank Steinbrenners whine about unfair division alignments keeping the Yankees out of the playoffs. He would hate my idea of realigning every year, creating divisions based on the previous season's record to encourage different teams to make the post season every year.

At the time that interleague play began, the Yankees were playing all three fourth place teams, a fifth place team, and a sixth place team.
The fact that the current division format gave the Yankees the easiest interleague schedule ever is curiously ignored in Steinbrenner's rant.
Rich B. is right, good old Hank the Tank conveniently forgot about the cush schedule during interleague play.
Hank really needs to get a little perspective. He may have a point but they are the NYY and will get deservedly zero sympathy.
So the owner of a team that has more money than any other team because of its location is whining that it is in the same division as other teams because of their locations? At least there are two leagues so that the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, and Phillies aren't in the same division.
How much revenue do they generate from their rivalry with division foe Boston? If he were to trade all of those sellouts & national coverage, I'd bet Hank would be complaining about something else... Believe me, in places like KC, we get tired of NY vs Boston & the unbalanced schedule.
