Defensive MVP?

Somehow Jason Barlett was voted the Rays MVP. Joe Posnanski makes the case against the Tampa Bay shortstop. Now, the Rays played horrible defense last season, and even though Bartlett fell off in his fielding stats this year, he was an improvement. However, did anyone notice Dioneer Navarro's improvement? Or Even Longoria? I guess Barlett has been Jeterated.

I think they made a great decision, as Barlett leads his team in SH. I think sac hits are the most underrated stat and most helpful to a team. We're talkin' productive outs here! A guy getting 5 productive outs over his team's first 155 games, is a guy getting the job done - unselfishly. That's what MVP is all about. "There's no Barlett in team", should be his motto. With him in the game, Tampa's been 77-46. I don't care how you spin it, 77 win shares can't be ignored. He's also batted .417 with an OPS of 1.083 as the DH! How can anyone argue against that? Did Navarro or Longoria put up those kind of stats? I think not.

Carlos Pena has 17HR, 53RBI, 1.005OPS since the break - 31HR 100RBI total. Should be the Gold Glove at 1B - I'm going with him.

My vote goes to Joe Maddon the manager !! He's defended against a young team loosing it's focus all year.
