Three on a Tie

The Red Sox defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0, knocking the Blue Jays out of the playoff picture and leaving the AL Central the only hope for the Twins. If the Yankees lose tonight, Boston goes to the post season.

The Red Sox won with their big three pitchers each performing up to snuff. Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed just two hits, and more importantly, just two walks over seven innings. Hideki Okajima pitched a perfect eighth and Papelbon allowed just a single in the ninth. Beckett and Lester are also capable of stellar seven inning performances, which makes the Red Sox a dangerous post-season team.

The best thing for the Sox is that since 7/6 the Sox have been 18-13 on the road and lost only two series on the road (angels and rays). Nobody should count out the Sox in the play offs.

Since coming off the DL Beckett has given up 2ER in 21 IP with 21K and 3BB. This is an interesting week for Boston - they want to win the division - TB has 8 games in 7 days on the road but against sucky teams - 2 of the first 3 in Bal they're going to start guys making their 1st big league start - but then they're going to face a lot of scrubs as well and get Dtrain in the next to last game (Way to compete DET). TB has their 4 best pitchers lined up for DET. Boston has NYY at home in the last series. Unless Boston falls behind I see a dogfight.
