More Theo

It's not official yet, but the Red Sox are giving Theo Epstein a contract extension. Given the success of the Red Sox since he took over, it's well deserved.

good for Theo...he deserves it. Its better to trade someone early, than late. Some of the less popular decisions are the best. No risk no reward.
Theo jettisoned Pedro..Derek Lowe..Nomar...Damon..Manny..Arroyo..Nixon...just to name some.
Theo knows how to cut the cord. Theo understands perfectly the value of a strong farm system. Theo put his job on the line with every big transaction he made. Brian Cashman doesn't...Hasn't. Cashman doesn't know how to cut the cord with some players. Writing a check to solve your problems and fill gaps and shore up needs has a limited life. That way of operating eventually leads to "the law of diminishing returns". Cashman has done nothing terribly noteworthy to distinguish his work from his predecessor Bob Watson. Theo won a Championship...retooled the team and won another. Cashman continues to fail miserably with a poor excuse of a youth movement (laughable more like it) and is still playing Boss style Fantasy League...(see Pudge, Nady). The Yanks - Cashman and that dysfunction front office just don't know how to cut the cord. It's a phobia...a fear...of letting go. I say nothing ventured...nothing gained, which is precisely why the Yanks stumbled and fumbled these last 3 to 5 years. The Yankees find themselves in the position they're in because Cashman is not anywhere close to being as good as Theo...but simply because this is just the way the Steinbrenner Era ...... ENDS. Bravo Theo. Coda.
