Good Weekend to be Last
The Royals and Pirates didn't play like last place teams this weekend. Kansas City took on an improving Cleveland team and took three out of four. In the three weekend game, the Royals outscored the Indians 29-10 including a 13-3 win Sunday afternoon. With Dayton Moore looking to shake the team up over the winter, his hitters are trying to keep their jobs.
Meanwhile, the Pirates sweep the still contending Cardianls, winning today 7-2 and for the three games 24-10. St. Louis was in a perfect position to move up in the standings as the Philles took the first three from the Brewers, but they couldn't defeat an otherwise easy opponent. The 1-5 hitters in the Pirates lineup each picked up two hits today, and Andy Laroche added three from the sixth slot. Early in the season I thought the Cardinals were a good bet to fold, but when they continued to play well late into the season, I assumed I was wrong. I just wasn't patient enough.

Looking at that lineup with Ankiel and Glaus out of the lineup, there's just too many second basemen in that lineup to hang in a scorefest.
