The Wheels Come Off
Scott Kazmir and Grant Balfour pitched seven strong innings, holding the Red Sox to two runs as Tampa Bay took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth. With two out, however, Dan Wheeler walks Youkilis and Jason Bay blasts a ball over the wall to put Boston up 4-3 and bring on Papelbon for the ninth.
Update: Three of Bay's seven home runs with the Red Sox came from the seventh inning on.
Update: Dan Johnson gets ahead of Papelbon 3-0, Jonathan comes back to 3-2, then Dan hits one into the bullpen to tie the game. Two blown saves on two long balls. That's the fifth blown save and fourth home run allowed by Papelbon this season.
Update: Fernando Perez just misses a home run as he doubles off the Green Monster with one out.
Update: Navarro doubles to put the Rays ahead 5-4. Papelbon has given up 1/5 of his extra-base hits allowed this season in this inning. Tampa Bay is showing a lot of guts, heart and determination here.
