If He's that Good with a Bad Ligament...

Albert Pujols is considering surgery on his elbow, which would cost him the start of the 2009 season:

But the St. Louis Cardinals and Pujols have both said that surgery on the elbow will eventually be necessary. He's been playing with the injury since 2003.

"I'm thinking about it; I'm thinking really hard," he said. "There's just a lot of things next year going on, the All-Star Game [in St. Louis], the [World Baseball] Classic, you know. But I think in the long run, the sooner that I get it done, the better it's going to be for me, because I'm going to heal quicker than if I wait two or three more years. But it needs to be done."

Given his great hitting since 2003, imagine what he'll be like with a new arm!

If the Cardinals are out of it (9 games behind) then have the surgery now. But I guess it wouldn't be politic to announce your season is over.

He really should have done it before this season--but given his results, he's going to be tempted to push it further. That's the problem with getting lucky in putting off taking care of an injury--it reinforces bad behavior without any guarantee that the good luck will continue.

If only there were some medicine he could take that would help him heal faster. Oh, right, there are two such medicines. Steroids and HGH. Why are they okay for ME to use with a doctor's prescription, but not for Albert Pujols to use? Nobody wants to see me play baseball. Something's backwards there, right?

A three-armed ball player?
