Long Sheets

It looks like Ben Sheets injury wasn't that serious as he pitches a shutout against the Padres. Sheets gives up five hits and one walk over his nine innings of work, striking out seven along the way.

I do have to wonder about Yost once again however. Sheets is a fragile pitcher coming off a groin injury, however slight. Allowing him to throw 120 pitches because:

  • You don't trust your bullpen
  • Your bullpen is tired

Just doesn't cut it in my book. Yes, it was a 1-0 game, but with all the callups Yost should be able to find someone to pitch the last inning. I understand Sheets and Sabathia probably won't be around next year, but you do want them to be around for the playoffs.

Groin injuries are not that bad though. At least personally, muscle injuries have never bothered me much because they heal at a predictable rate (assuming you stay away from using them), and you know when they're healed. With tendons and ligaments, they can take a long time to heal (if ever), and it's almost impossible not to use them. And you can wake up one morning and feel great, only to ruin progress with one or two pitches. With groin injuries, it's pretty easy to go through everyday life and not use those muscles, as long as you don't walk sideways like a crab.

Think the Brewers might be in a tough spot with their fans this off season when it comes to letting resigning CC and/or Sheets.
It'd be tough to let them both go , especially if they get anywhere in the playoffs (doubtful). But do you take CC, who they've been red-lining since day 1, or Sheets, who's always hurt?

Agree with Mike. Groin injuries are weird, they don't impede your motion and it isn't like a sprain where it reacts to pressue. Just all the sudden after you run for a while they start to kill.
