As Cano Goes
Robinson Cano went four for five this afternoon to help the Yankees to an 8-7 victory over the Orioles. Lately, the Yankees fortunes seem to be following Cano's hitting.

Someone needs to tell him to hit .514 every week.
What this shows is that Cano is the marginal player for the Yankees. With their pitching, they need to have seven productive hitters in their lineup. Insert Cano into another lineup, in a team with stronger pitching or a stronger offense -or a team with worse pitching and weaker hitters- and his presence or lack of presence doesn't make a difference.
Every team has a version of this player in their lineup, the pitching equivalent is the fourth starter.
Cano really seems to not be reaching his potential. You really have to wonder about NYY development on him, Melky and others. It's kind of hard to believe with his talent how much better a player like Pedroia is than him.
