No Melk nor Sexson the Champange Room

Via Shysterball, the Yankees send Melky Cabrera to the minors and release Richie Sexson.

Bruce Gardner and Cody Ransom were recalled from Triple-A Scranton to fill the open spots on the Yankees' 25-man roster.

I'm very disappointed in Melky Cabrera. He's still young, but you'd like to see progress early in a player's career and Melky showed none this season. While I love the name, I'm not sure how much Cody Ransom will help. He basically defines career minor leaguer.

NYY seems like a rudderless ship. Who's going to play in CF - Damon? Was Sexson any better or worse than they thought he'd be? Wouldn't have like Byrd or Washburn have really helped them?

Who's going to play in CF

Uh. They called up Brett Gardner when they sent down Melky Cabrera. So, just a wild guess, but I'm thinking that Gardner will play CF.

Certainly Byrd or Washburn would have helped them. Either one would have been the #3 starter in the Yankee rotation. I interpret the Yankees' lack of interest as a sign that they are pretty much playing out the string on 2008: if the team gets hot, that's fine, but we're not going out of our way to add any new bodies.

Either that, or they have full confidence that Carl Pavano will come to their rescue.

That last game against Minnesota there were so many mental errors and in the dugout players were just sitting apart and looking glum. This is simply the worst Yankees team in over a decade and the most uninspired team I have seen.

The older players are playing old, the younger ones playing too young. Sure, injuries are a problem, Posada, Wang, Matsui, Joba, Hughes, but I think Joba was the last straw for them.

Jeter is having his worst year ever, and should be hitting 6th. A-Rod is back to choke this year. Pudge and Marte have been crap. Giambi and Abreu are mediocre players. There is nobody on the bench of value, and nothing in the minors that can help much. Damon has pretty much been the only spark this year offensively.

As a Red Sox fan, this disappoints me because I love the rivalry, and winning the World Series last year without having a chance to kick Yankee butt was like sex w/o any foreplay.

The Yankees are going to have to make some major moves on the FA market, and you know Boras is coming knocking on their door with Manny. Will be interesting to see if they overpay for him out of desperation. I would love to have someone besides A-Rod to plunk in retaliation for Jobas "wildness'.
