The Astros Get the Finger

Carlos Lee goes down for the season with a broken finger. It's amazing how something so small can be so important to a player's performance. This likely kills any chance for a wild card comeback by the Astros. Lee's stats surged since the All-Star break. He was slugging .667 with 24 RBI in 21 games.

Michael Young has a broken ring finger and is playing every day. Lee must have suffered a pretty nasty fracture.

The worst part about this for Astros fans is that this will serve as the "but for" reason for Houston missing the playoffs when McLane, Wade & Co. claim their strategy for putting a team together will work in 2009. Unfortunately, this means the real changes the organization needs to make will be put off that much longer.

Jim is right on the money. And this is the true bad news for the Astros.
