Manny Being the Old Manny

The Dodgers defeat the Cardinals this afternoon 4-1 behind the pitching of Clayton Kershaw and the hitting of Jeff Kent and Manny Ramirez. Kent went three for four and scored twice, while Manny hit his fourth home run since joining the Dodgers, driving in two more runs. Manny now has a .615 OBA and a 1.130 slugging percentage. If he had gotten off to that kind of start with the Red Sox, maybe the whole ugly series of incidents leading to the trade doesn't happen.

Manny would have gotten p.o. about something.I hope that the owners think long & hard before giving him 25 mill.

for me and other objective dodgers' fans alike, i really hope a great two months with the dodgers doesnt mean a five-year deal with 25 million a year.

manny is not going to have an OBP of .615 for the rest of his career, and most dodger fans (plus frank mccourt) won't recognize that.

and i still think the incidents with the red sox may not have been due to manny's performance, although there's an interesting theory going around that manny had high expectations for himself this season, and was angered at the sox organization because of that. i guess we'll never know, but i'm enjoying this amazing run by him while i can.

I really have to wonder about signing guys who play hard when they feel like it. My guess is right after Manny signs a deal his knee is going to start acting up again.
