Cuban's Bid

Via the Hardball Times, Squawking Baseball wonders if Mark Cuban will challenge baseball's anti-trust exemption if MLB owners don't vote him into the club.

I'd like to see Cuban own a baseball team because I believe he would bring transparency to the owners meetings. Right now, we just hear results of the meetings, which in the way Bud Selig runs things are always unanimous votes of approval. Given that Cuban is a very public person, I would hope he'd give us an idea of how the consensus was reached. What ideas were shot down, which owners are the stumbling blocks to innovative ideas. Of course, that's probably a good reason (in the minds of the other owners) to keep him out.

Mark Cuban will be the next owner of the Chicago Cubs.

The process is too far along.

Cuban will not be outbid, his 1.3bb offer will be the greatest. He has garnered the support of too many baseball types already, including ownership. He has been spoken for by David Stern, and finally, not only would Baseball have to worry about Cuban's suit, but Sam Zell/Tribune would join in.

The Cuban/Zell/Tribune case would be entirely too good for the remaining owners not to capitulate. The most valuable asset in all of professional sports is MLB's antitrust exemption. They aren't going to have a judge/jury decide it's fate.

Cuban will be announced between Halloween and Thanksgiving.
